Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized Kisan Mela on ‘In-situ crop Residue Management’ at KVK farm, Majra of district Mohali. This event was presided over by Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana as Chief Guest. The programme was attended by large number of farmers/farm women and several officials of various line departments of the district. Dr. B.S Khadda, Deputy Director, KVK Mohali welcomed all the participants and briefed about the activities of KVK. Kisan Mela started with technical session in which Dr. Rajesh Kasrija, Dr. Prateek Dhaliwal, Experts from GADVASU, Dr. Aparna, Dr. Ankurdeep Preety, Dr. Jagmanjot Singh (Experts from KVK Ropar), Dr. R.S. Ghuman & Dr. Navneet (Experts from FASC, Ropar), Dr. Anil Bana, Soil Conservation Officer, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), Dr. Kamalpreet Kaur, HDO, Dr. Raman Karodia, Agriculture Officer (Majri) delivered lectures on the various aspects of paddy straw management. Dr. P.S. Brar, Director of Extension Education cautioned the farmers regarding crop residue burning and highlighted its harmful effects on soil, human and animal health. He urged farmers to use paddy straw for economizing the livestock production. Progressive livestock &Agriculture farmers of the district also shared their experience in straw management and benefits they got by not burning the rice straw. They also acknowledged the support given by KVK Mohali and GADVASU, Ludhiana. Exhibitions were also organized in which many line departments, private companies, FPOs, SHGs and entrepreneurs displayed their products. Progressive farmers/farm women were also felicitated during this Kisan Mela for their contribution in the field of agriculture and livestock production. A Nukkar Natak was also played by National Fertilizers Ltd. Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Asstt. Prof. (Plant Protection), KVK Mohali, thanked the dignitaries, farmers, and staff members for their active participation in the program.
